Andrew Camilleri - Highway Patrol Fatality - California

Andrew Camilleri
Officer Andrew Camilleri, age 33, died in the line of duty on December 24, 2017, in Hayward, California.

Officer Camilleri was a member of the California Highway Patrol and was based in Hayward. He had 16 months of service.

Hayward is a city of just under 150,000, located in the East Bay sub region of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Just before midnight, Andrew and his partner were parked on the shoulder of a local freeway in Hayward. They were doing speed checks by radar. Their patrol car was struck from behind by a speeding vehicle. Impaired driving may be the cause of the accident.

Tragically, Andrew succumbed to his injuries.

His partner was treated and released from the hospital.

The California Highway Patrol Credit Union has set up a fund to help the officer's family with expenses. Telephone the Credit Union at 800 542-2247 for further details.

The suspected impaired male driver, a 22 year old from Hayward, was also injured and hospitalized. He may face numerous charges upon his release from the hospital.

This man is innocent unless proven guilty.

However, we offer this advice to all drivers: If you find that you are drunk, wasted or doped up on street drugs or prescription drugs or if you are falling asleep on your feet, do NOT drive. Call a family member or a friend for a ride; or take a taxi or a bus;
Michael, Patron Saint of the
Police, pray for Andrew
and for those who
have lost him.
or stay where you are until you sober up; or crawl home on your hands and knees. It will be better for you and for the world if you do.

Regret can last a lifetime.

Family members stated that Andrew had wanted to be a member of the Highway Patrol since High School and finally achieved his goal. He was a dedicated father to his children. His family are extremely proud of him.

The California Highway Patrol is in mourning over the death of their brother. Highway Patrol officials stated: “Andrew was drawn to this profession due to his courage, integrity and desire to serve. Andrew was a great man who loved his job and loved his family.” He died in the service of others. He will be forever remembered.

Andrew's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He was loved. He will be forever mourned.

Andrew is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his mother and father, a brother, a sister, his wife, a daughter and two sons.

Thank you for your service to California, Andrew.

Pray for justice for Andrew.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray that Andrew is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
