Eric Overall - Deputy Sheriff's Department Fatality - Michigan

Deputy Sheriff Eric Overall, age 50, died in the line of duty on November 23, 2017, in Michigan. 

Deputy Sheriff Overall was a member of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, based at Pontiac, Michigan. He had 22 years of service. 

Officers in Lapeer County starting pursuing a man in a vehicle. The man had made threats against the officers in the parking lot of the Lapeer County Jail. The pursuit extended onto a roadway in Oakland County. 

Just after midnight, Eric was deploying stop sticks and had stepped back from the roadway. The driver of the vehicle being pursued deliberately drove off of the road and struck Eric. 

Eric was rushed to a local hospital where, tragically, he was pronounced deceased. 

The 22 year old male suspect was taken into custody. 

A funding site has been set up to help Eric's family with expenses. 

Eric was the former liaison officer at Walled Lake Central High School. School officials stated that Eric was a courageous and selfless officer.

The members of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office are in mourning over the death of their brother. Eric would help anyone who needed help. He was a respectful and caring man who was kind in spirit. He will be forever remembered.

Eric's loved ones are devastated by his tragic death. He was loved. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Eric is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife, Sonja; and his adult son.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

God save us from the psychopaths. They are killing us, Father. Amen.

Pray that Eric is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
