Justin Leo - Police Officer Fatality - Girard, Ohio

Police Officer Justin Leo, age 31, died in the line of duty on October 21, 2017, at a hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.

Officer Leo was a member of the Girard Police Department. He had five years of service.

Girard is a city in Trumbull County, Ohio, with a population of 10,000. It is part of the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located about 70 miles southeast of Cleveland.

After 10:00 p.m., Justin and another officer were called out on a domestic disturbance matter at a house in Girard. The male in the house was drunk and was known to have weapons.

The officers made contact with the male at the front door of the house. The man then produced a handgun and shot Justin. The other officer returned fire and killed the shooter.

Justin was rushed to a hospital in Youngstown where, tragically, he died of his injuries.

The entire incident is under investigation.

The members of the Girard Police Department are in mourning over the death of their brother. Justin was a well-respected officer and a gentleman. He died in the service of his community. He will be forever remembered.

Justin's loved ones are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He was loved. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Justin is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.
