Mark De Alencar - U.S. Military Fatality - Afghanistan

Mark De Alencar
Staff Sgt. Mark R. De Alencar, age 37, of Edgewood, Maryland, died in the line of duty on April 8, 2017, in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. De Alencar was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

Mark died of injuries sustained when his unit came under fire from enemy forces.

Mark was serving in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel which is the U.S. military action against terrorism in Afghanistan. 

In 1998, Mark graduated from Joppatowne High School in Edgewood. He enlisted in 2009 and became part of the special forces in 2016. 

Mark received numerous decorations and awards during his years of service. 

Friends stated that Mark was one of the good guys. He died doing what he wanted to do.

Mark's loved ones are devastated over his tragic death. Mark's priorities were his family and hard work. He was loving and was loved in return. He will be forever mourned.

Mark is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and five children.

Thank you for your service to America, Mark. 

Pray for all who die in a foreign land, far from their loved ones. 

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray that Mark is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.

Pray, without ceasing, unto God for an end to all War. It is enough.
