Yadira Arroyo |
EMT Arroyo was a member of the New York City Fire Department. She had 14 years of service.
In the early evening hours, Yadira and another EMT were responding to an emergency call. They were alerted that a man was riding on the back bumper of their ambulance. They stopped the vehicle and Yadira got out. The male subject ran around to the other side of the ambulance and got into the driver's seat. He put the vehicle into reverse and ran over Yadira who was standing behind it. She was dragged by the vehicle until it ran into several parked cars and got stuck in a snowbank.
Yadira was rushed to a local medical center where, tragically, she was pronounced deceased.
Witnesses were able to hold the man until the police arrived.
