William Ryan Owens - U.S. Navy Fatality - Yemen

Chief Special Warfare Operator William "Ryan" Owens, age 36, of Peoria, Illinois, died in the line of duty on January 28, 2017, in Yemen.

Chief Special Warfare Operator Owens was a U.S. Navy sailor who was assigned to an East Coast based Special Warfare Unit. He was working in support of U.S. Central Command Operations.

Al-Qaeda is attempting to seize territory during the chaos of the Yemeni civil war.

Ryan was involved in a raid and firefight against an Al-Qaeda unit when he was wounded. Tragically, he passed away due to his injuries.

Ryan joined the Navy in 1998 and received his special warfare training in Coronado,

California. During his years of service, Ryan earned numerous awards and decorations, including two bronze stars with a combat “V” for valor and heroic service.

Ryan's Navy comrades are in mourning over the death of their brother. Officials stated that Ryan was an exceptional Navy Seal, who was highly respected by his peers. He served silently, nobly and bravely during all of his assignments. He was a patriot and a hero. He will be forever remembered.

Ryan's loved ones are devastated over his tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Ryan is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.

Pray, without ceasing, unto God for an end to all War. It is enough.

Pray that Ryan is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
