Dennis Wallace - Deputy Sheriff Fatality - Stanislaus County, California

Deputy Sheriff Dennis Wallace, age 53, died in the line of duty on November 13, 2016, in Hughson, California.

Deputy Sheriff Wallace was a member of the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department. He had 20 years of service.

Hughson is a city of under 7,000 in Stanislaus County and is part of the Modesto Metropolitan Statistical Area.

After 8:00 a.m., Dennis was called out to investigate a suspicious vehicle in a local park. He was alerted that the vehicle was stolen and he called for backup. A second deputy arrived on scene and found Dennis with two shotgun wounds to his head. He had been shot execution style.

The suspect, David Machado, age 36, fled the scene in the stolen car and then hijacked a second vehicle. He was arrested by law enforcement officers later that day after he robbed a liquor store and also tried to steal a woman's purse. David Machado is a known criminal.

Tragically, Dennis succumbed to his injuries.

Family members stated that Dennis had always wanted to work in law enforcement. He loved his community.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. He was a big-hearted man who was committed to his profession. He was helpful and respectful of others. He will be forever remembered.

Dennis' loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was loving and he was loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Dennis is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and children.
