Colin Rose - Police Officer Fatality - Detroit, Michigan

Colin Rose
Police Officer Collin Rose, age 29, died in the line of duty on November 23, 2016, at a hospital in Detroit, Michigan.

Officer Rose was a member of the Wayne State University Police Department. He had five and one-half years of service. He served as a canine officer.

On November 22, 2016, at about 6:30 p.m., Colin was patrolling an area near the University's downtown campus that had experienced a number of thefts from vehicles. He radioed in that he was approaching a suspicious person on a bicycle. Colin attempted to detain the man but the subject shot Colin.

The shooter fled the scene. A suspect, DeAngelo Davis, was arrested later that night. He has a prior history of run-ins with police officers.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the location of the crime weapon. Call 1-888-ATF-TIPS.

Colin was rushed to a local hospital where, tragically, the next day he succumbed to his injuries.

A funding site has been established to help Colin's family with expenses.

Colin graduated from Ferris State University in 2010. He had been president of the

Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Colin had served as a cadet with the New Baltimore Police Department. He then worked as an officer with the Village of Richland before joining the Wayne State University Police Department.

Colin was engaged to be married.

Colin's interests included cycling and dog training.

Comrades describe Colin as a true hero. He had an impeccable work ethic and loved what he did for the community.

The members of the Wayne State University Police Department are in mourning over the death
of their brother. Colin served with distinction. He will be forever remembered.

Colin's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Colin is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his parents and his fiancée.

Thank you for your service to the community, Colin.

Donations are being made to WSU in Colin's memory. I would like to see an endowed scholarship established with some of those funds in Colin's memory to support students pursuing a degree in public safety.
