Brandon Collins - Law Enforcement Fatality - Kansas

Master Deputy Sheriff Brandon Collins, age 45, died in the line of duty on September 11, 2016, on a highway in Overland Park, Kansas.
Brandon Collins

Overland Park is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Master Deputy Sheriff Collins was a member of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office. He had 21 years of service.

At about 1:30 a.m., Brandon was conducting a traffic stop on a roadway in Overland Park.

He had gotten back into his patrol car when a pickup truck slammed into his vehicle from behind, causing it to burst into flames.

Tragically, Brandon succumbed to his injuries.

Michael, Patron Saint of the
Police, pray for Brandon and
for those who have lost him.
The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene on foot but was apprehended a short time later.

The pickup truck driver is innocent unless proven guilty.

However, we offer this advice to all drivers: If you find that you are drunk, wasted or doped up on street drugs or prescription drugs or if you are falling asleep on your feet, do NOT drive. Call a family member or a friend for a ride; or take a taxi or a bus; or stay where you are until you sober up; or crawl home on your hands and knees. It will be better for you and for the world if you do.

Regret can last a lifetime.

During his career, Brandon had worked detention, narcotics and the uniformed patrol division.

Friends describe Brandon as a man who loved his family and his work in law enforcement. He was kind, funny, fair and uptempo.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is in mourning over the death of their brother. Brandon was a dedicated and well-respected officer. He will be forever remembered.

Brandon's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was loving and was loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Brandon is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and his two daughters.

Thank you for your service to the community, Brandon.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

God save us from the drunk and the doped up drivers. They are killing us, Father. Amen.

Pray that Brandon is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
