Tim McClanahan - Firefighter Fatality - Delaware

Tim McClanahan
Firefighter Tim McClanahan, age 46, died in the line of duty on July 11, 2016, at the Delaware Coastal Airport in Georgetown, Delaware.

Firefighter McClanahan was a volunteer member of the Lewes Volunteer Fire Department. He had 18 years of service in firefighting.

Lewes is located in eastern Sussex County and has a population of just under 2,800.

Just before 7:00 p.m., Tim was participating in a helicopter hoist training exercise with the Delaware Air Rescue Team at the Delaware Coastal Airport. During the exercise Tim fell from the helicopter to the ground below.

Other firefighters and medics provided medical assistance and Tim was rushed to a nearby hospital where, tragically, he died of his injuries.

The circumstances of this tragic accident are under investigation.

Florian, Patron Saint of
Firefighters, pray for Tim
and for those who have
lost him.
The Lewes Volunteer Fire Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. Tim was a highly valued asset to the Department and to the community. He will be forever remembered.

Tim's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was loving and was loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Tim is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.

Thank you for your service to the community, Tim.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray that Tim is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
