Jonathan DeGuzman - Police Officer Fatality - San Diego

Police Office Jonathan DeGuzman, age 43, died in the line of duty on July 28, 2016, at a hospital in San Diego, California.

Officer DeGuzman was a member of the San Diego Police Department. He served in the Gang Unit. He had 16 years of service. 

He was known as "J.D." to his friends.

At about 11:00 p.m, Jonathan and his partner were conducting a routine stop at a city intersection in the Southcrest area. A confrontation ensued and both officers were shot by the two men in the vehicle.

Responding fellow officers rushed Jonathan to a nearby hospital where, tragically, he died of his injuries.

His partner, Wade Irwin, age 32, is in the hospital in serious condition. He is expected to survive.

Jesse Gomez, age 52, and Marcus Cassani, age 41, have been arrested in connection with this shooting, but their role in this tragedy is not entirely understood as of this posting.

Officer DeGuzman had been stabbed in 2003 while conducting a traffic stop.

The San Diego Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. He was one of the good guys who wanted to make a difference in the community. He was dedicated and hard-working. He was upbeat and friendly. He cared about being a police officer. He will be forever remembered.

Jonathan's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He loved his family and he was loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Jonathan is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and his two young children.
