Michael Winter - Deputy Sheriff Fatality - Michigan

Deputy Sheriff Michael Winter, age 39, died on May 31, 2016, at a hospital in Indiana.

Deputy Winter was a member of the Branch County Sheriff's Office based in Coldwater, Michigan. 

On May 30, 2016, Michael had been working a special detail at a Memorial Day Parade in Quincy, Michigan. 

He was riding a horse when the horse was startled by a loud noise. The horse bucked and threw Michael to the ground. Michael suffered fatal brain injuries from the accident. 

He was flown to a hospital in Indiana where, tragically, the next day he died of his injuries. 

His internal organs were donated so that others could live.

The Branch County Sheriff's Office is in mourning over the death of their brother. He was a good guy who did his job. He will be forever remembered.

Michael's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Michael is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.

Thank you for your service to the community, Michael. 

Pray for all who go to work and who die because of it.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray that Michael is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
