Chad Dermyer |
Trooper Dermyer was a member of the Virginia State Police. He had almost 1 and one-half years of service. He had previously served with the Newport News Police Department.
Chad and several other troopers were undergoing a training course and were conducting stops of suspects. Just before 3:00 p.m., Chad stopped and spoke to a man who was acting suspiciously in the Greyhound bus station in Richmond. The man pulled out a pistol and shot Chad several times.
Others officers returned fire and killed the suspect, James Brown III, age 34. James Brown III was an ex-convict with a lengthy criminal record. He reportedly told his family members that he would never go to jail again; he would fight it out with the police.
Chad was rushed to a nearby hospital where, tragically, he died of his injuries.
Chad was a U.S. Marine Veteran and had served with the Corps for four years. He was from Jackson, Michigan. He graduated from the Virginia State Police Academy
in 2014 and had recently transferred to the state police CounterTerrorism and Criminal Interdiction Unit.
The Virginia State Police are in mourning over the death of their brother. He was a professional who loved his job. He will be forever remembered.
