Jacai Colson - Police Officer Fatality - Maryland

Jacai Colson
Police Officer Jacai Colson, age 28, died in the line of duty on March 13, 2016, at a hospital in Prince George's County, Maryland.

Officer Colson was a member of the Prince George's County Police Department. He had four years of service. He worked as a narcotics officer.

Prince George’s County has a population of over 850,000. It borders Washington, D.C.

At 4:30 p.m. Prince George's County Police Department's District III police station in Landover, Maryland, came under attack. Two men fired shots at the station trying to lure officers outside.

Officers inside the building returned fire. Officer Colson was shot.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where, tragically, he died of his injuries.

One of the shooters was shot and taken to the hospital. The other suspect was arrested.

The motive for the attack is not known as of this date. This may have been a "suicide by cop" situation in which the shooter hoped to be killed in the exchange of gunfire.

Jacai had graduated in 2009 from Randolph–Macon College in Virginia where he played football. Friends at the college describe Jacai as a man of character who treated others with respect.

Others describe Jacai as a cop's cop who was always working. He had a great smile and a welcoming personality.

Michael, Patron Saint of the
Police, pray for Jacai and
for those who have lost him.
The Prince George's County Police Department is in mourning over the death of their young brother. He will be forever remembered.
