Lee Tartt |
Special Agent Tartt was a member of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety - Bureau of Narcotics. He had 16 years of service with the Department and a total of 22 years of service in law enforcement.
Just after 5:00 p.m. on February 19, 2016, Lee and other member of the Department's SWAT team were called to enter a home in Tishomingo County where a male subject had barricaded himself inside. He had taken his wife and child hostage in the home during a domestic dispute. However, he allowed them to leave but kept up a lengthy stand-off.
During the confrontation, Lee and three other SWAT members were wounded. Tragically, Lee's wounds were fatal. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The other law enforcement officers are expected to survive their wounds.
The shooter, Charles Lee Lambert, age 45, was shot and killed by the authorities.
Friends stated that Lee was known for his honesty, courage, loyalty and humility. He loved his work. He and his wife, Debra, are described as a loving couple.

Lee had won the title of Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Agent of the year in 2011. In 2012, he won an award for valor.
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety is in mourning over the death of their brother. He was a friend to his peers and a mentor to many. He will be forever remembered.
Lee's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was loving and was loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.
Lee is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife, Debra, and two children.
