Robert Ponsi - a victim of thieves in Baltimore, Maryland

Robert Ponsi
Robert Ponsi, age 29, died on January 10, 2016, at a hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Robert was known as Robbie to his family and friends.

On January 9, 2016, around 9:00 p.m., Robert was riding his bicycle home from work when he was attacked in a robbery attempt. During this botched robbery, Robert was stabbed several times.

Robert was rushed to a nearby hospital where, tragically, he died of his injuries.

Robert was a waiter at a restaurant in Harbor East.

Police have arrested two suspects in the attack: Antwan Eldridge, age 17, of Ednor Gardens, and Daquan Middleton, age 16, of Berea. Both have been charged as adults with murder, armed robbery and assault.

Antwan Eldridge and Daquan Middleton are innocent unless proven guilty.

However, to the thieves who killed Robert Ponsi, we ask this question: What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?

Robert had moved to Baltimore five years ago from Leesburg, Florida. He had been raised there by his grandparents.

He had hoped to join AmeriCorps or the Peace Corps. He had been a leader in the

Young Marines in high school. He had been chosen as one of nine out of 16,000 Young Marines for a two-week survival training course in Canada. He had proudly represented American youth.

Co-workers describe Robert as a genuinely good guy who was bright and amusing.

Robert's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was a good guy who was athletic and strong-willed. He was very intelligent and empathetic. He was always willing to help others. He was a natural born leader. His family are extremely proud of him. He always did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Robert is survived by many loving friends and family members including his grandparents and his sister.

Pray for justice for Robert.

God save us from the thieves. They are killing us, Father. Amen.

Pray that Robert is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
