Matthew McClintock - U.S. Military Fatality - Afghanistan

Staff Sgt. Matthew Q. McClintock, age 30, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, died in the line of duty on January 6, 2016, in Marjah District, Afghanistan, from wounds suffered when his unit was attacked with small arms fire. 

Matthew's unit was clearing out Taliban forces in one of the local valleys when he and his unit came under intense enemy fire.

The incident is under investigation.

Staff Sgt. McClintock was assigned to the1st Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Buckley, Washington.

Matthew was a Washington National Guardsman. He joined the Army in 2006 and served as a Special Forces engineer sergeant. He deployed to Iraq in 2007 before being selected by the U.S. Army Special Forces School in May of 2009. He previously deployed to Afghanistan between August of 2012 and May of 2013 and left active duty for the National Guard in December of 2014.

His current deployment to Afghanistan began in July of 2015. 

He was the father of an infant son.

Matthew's military comrades are in mourning over the death of their brother. He was well-respected by his peers and was one of their best. It was an honor to serve

Matthew's family members are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He was the love of his wife's life. He loved his family and he was loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Matthew is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives including his wife, Alexandra, and his infant son, Declan. 

Thank you for serving, Matthew. 

Pray, without ceasing, unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Matthew.

Pray that Matthew is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
