Jesse Tarplin

Police Officer Jesse Tarplin, age 38, died on December 12, 2015, at a hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Officer Tarplin was a member of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Police Department. He had 11 years of service.

Jesse was riding his personal motorcycle as part of an off duty assignment escorting a funeral procession in Fulton County. Just before 1:00 p.m., the procession was leaving the funeral home when Jesse's motorcycle collided with the back of an SUV at a nearby intersection.

Jesse was rushed to a nearby hospital where, tragically, he passed away from his injuries. 

The cause of the collision is under investigation.  It does not appear that any charges will be laid.

Jesse grew up in the metro Atlanta area. He went to Cross Keys High School in Decatur.

Jesse had played football for Georgia Tech from 1995 to 1998. He had earned all conference honors in his senior year in 1998.

Police comrades describe Jesse as a good guy who was just trying to support his family by doing off-duty work.

The members of the MARTA Police Department are in mourning over the death of their brother. He will be forever remembered.

Jesse's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was a loving husband and father. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Jesse is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his expectant wife and five children.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray that Jesse is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
