During the later hours of August 22nd, Daniel was driving on a highway near Watertown when his vehicle was struck head-on by another vehicle which was travelling the wrong way on the highway.
Tragically, Daniel died of his injuries at the scene of the collision.
John Fretts, age 43, of Morris, Connecticut, the driver of the wrong way vehicle, received only minor injuries.
On December 16, 2015, John Fretts was charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and driving the wrong way on a highway.
John Fretts is innocent unless proven guilty.
However we offer this advice to all drivers: If you find that you are wasted, drunk or doped up on street drugs or prescription drugs or if you are falling asleep on your feet, do NOT drive. Call a family member or a friend for a ride; or take a taxi or a bus; or stay where you are until you sober up; or crawl home on your hands and knees. It will be better for you and for the world if you do.
Regret can last a lifetime.
