William Ferrell - a Good Samaritan Marine struck down in Maryland

Cpl. William Ferrell, age 21, of Carthage, North Carolina, died on September 29, 2015, in Maryland.

Cpl. Ferrell was a Marine assigned to Camp David, Maryland, which is also known as the Naval Support Facility Thurmont. He was a Marine Corps security force guard. 

William was called "Kyle" by many of his friends and family. 

Just before 11:00 p.m., William was driving on a highway near Thurmont, Maryland, when he came came across a disabled vehicle on the shoulder. It was pouring rain. He stopped to see if he could help. He was wearing a reflective vest and had turned on his truck’s white emergency strobe lights. 

As William was standing by his truck, he was struck by another truck towing a trailer. The driver who struck William pulled over for a minute and then sped away. 

A reward of $1,000 is being offered to the person who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the hit-and-run driver. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Maryland State Police at 301-600-4151. 

William had been a volunteer member of the Carthage Fire and Rescue in North Carolina when he was a teenager.

Friends stated that William cared about everyone and was easy going and friendly. He was helpful to others and was hard-working. He often stopped to help those who were in trouble on the highway.

William's military comrades are in mourning over the death of their young brother.
Officials stated that William was a selfless Marine with a strong and noble character.

William's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was a good kid who did his best. He will be forever mourned.

William is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.

God save us from those who strike us down on the road and then run away like wolves. Amen.
