Greg Alia

Police Officer Greg Alia, age 32, of Forest Acres, died in the line of duty on September 30, 2015, at a hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.

Officer Alia was a member of the Forest Acres Police Department. He had seven years of service.

Forest Acres is a city in Richland County, South Carolina with a population of just over 10,000. It is part of the Columbia Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Greg and another officer responded to a call that came in just before 8:00 a.m. that a suspicious person was in the vicinity of the Richland Mall in Columbia. The officers attempted to talk to the man who fled on foot through the Mall. Greg confronted the man inside one of the mall's stores; a struggle ensued and Greg was shot.

Greg was rushed to a nearby hospital where tragically he died of his injuries.

The suspect, Jarvis Hall, was taken into custody.

A funding site has been set up to help the family with expenses.

Greg had grown up in Forest Acres. He graduated from the University of South

The Forest Acres Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. Police officials describe Greg as an outstanding officer who had always wanted to be a cop. He will be forever remembered.

Friends stated that Greg will always be remembered as a kind-hearted soul who was always warm and welcoming with a big smile on his face and a great sense of humor.

Greg's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was a loving son, husband and father. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Greg is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife, Kassy, and their infant son.
