Sean Bolton - Police Officer Fatality - Memphis, Tennessee

Police Officer Sean Bolton, age 33, died in the line of duty on August 1, 2015, at a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Officer Bolton was a member of the Memphis Police Department. He was assigned to the Mt. Moriah Station. He had just under 5 years of service. 

At about 9:15 p.m. on August 1, 2015, Sean observed an illegally parked vehicle near an intersection and approached the vehicle. A struggle ensued and Sean was shot multiple times by one of the occupants of the vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene. 

It is believed that Sean had interrupted some type of drug deal.  

A passerby used the officer's radio to frantically call for help. Sean was transported to a local hospital where tragically he succumbed to his injuries. 

Sean graduated from White Station High School in 1999.  He was a United States Marine Corp veteran and had served a tour of duty in Iraq. He had studied political science at the University of Memphis. 

What is particularly tragic is that the drug deal may have involved only a small amount of marijuana which is a misdemeanor offence.

As of this date, the suspected shooter, Tremaine Wilbourn, age 29, has not been apprehended. He has a prior conviction for bank robbery.

Friends describe Sean as a gentle man who was not a strong proponent of using force. 

The Memphis Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. Police Officials stated that Sean was a credit to the uniform. He was a great guy and was a well-respected professional. He will be forever remembered.

Sean's loved ones are devastated over his tragic death. He was a quiet man who loved to read. He liked going to the gym. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Sean is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.

Pray that Sean is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
