Mark Engravalle - a Good Samaritan Cop in Roeland, Kansas

On July 6, 2015, at about 4 p.m., a mother of six was caught shoplifting at a Wal-Mart in Roeland Park, Kansas.

Roeland Park is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Officer Mark Engravalle (L); Sarah Robinson (R)
Sarah Robinson was the perpetrator. The merchandise stolen amounted to $300. and consisted of children's shoes, diapers and baby wipes.

Her husband had accidentally drowned several years ago. She is in dire financial straits. She and her children were living in her car.

She stated that she had run out of friends to ask for help and she feared she would lose her kids to Child Protective Services.

The Police were called to the store and Officer Mark Engravalle found the woman and her children in the parking lot. Three of the kids had no shoes and had dirty feet. They were crying because they thought that the Police were going to take their mother to jail.

Mark said that the woman's story touched his heart and he went into the store and came out with diapers, wipes and a pair of shoes for each of the children. He paid for

this out of his own pocket.

He said that he just wanted to do right by the children. He is a father of two children himself.

Sarah Robinson was given a ticket for shoplifting but was not arrested.

Sarah Robinson was extremely grateful for this act of generosity and kindness. She knows that she did the wrong thing in attempting to shoplift.

Many others have been touched by Mark's kind act and have contributed to helping this homeless family.

Donations can be made through the Roeland Park Police Department at 913-677-3363 or donations can be sent to the Sarah J. Robinson Donation Account, Mission Bank, 5115 Roe Blvd., Roeland Park, Kansas, 66205.

Mark had recently received an award for helping to save a choking infant. Police Officials describe him as a good man with a compassionate heart.

God bless Mark Engravalle. He is a Good Samaritan.

God bless all who come to the aid of strangers. Amen.

Pray for Sarah, that she gets on her feet and is able to provide a home for herself and for her children. Amen.

Truly a heartwarming story. However, I can't shake the feeling that if this shoplifter had been a black woman, not only would she (and her accomplice daughter) have been arrested, but quite possibly beaten beyond recognition and/or received a bullet to the back of the skull--possibly from this very same hero officer. Furthermore, Instead of offering sympathy and assistance, the majority of the public would have vilified her and her daughter as 'thugs' or 'crackheads' who got what they deserved! The hypocrisy and double-standards never cease to amaze!

You have a point. However, we can't negate the fact that this cop performed an act of charity and kindness to another human being in distress (despite the fact that she committed a crime).

Can't we just acknowledge his contribution to our "humanity" and leave speculation about "what if's" out of the picture?

We are all making small steps towards a greater goal which is equality and justice for everyone.

When each and everyone of us S-T-O-P bringing up this subject of "black and/or white" There will be peace. The fact is this: a woman committed a crime . Rationale: desperation for her CHILDREN. This officer committed an act of KINDNESS and also did his job, he gave her a ticket. If that woman were black (just for the record) this officer would have done THE SAME THING. He has compassion and a man that has this kind of compassion has a heart that does not look at color but his heart felt for her as a human being. Perhaps the entire world should just stop talking color. It is disgusting to keep hearing this BS. Please, Take each individual incident or event and restrict opinions to that. Not all cops are bad. Not all humans are bad. we dont have to hear what color someone is we are all human beings . Just a gentle reminder: Children LEARN wha t they LIVE. So as long as adults are bringing this stuff up, talk it in their home, their own children will do the same. adults need to hush up this talk so your children can grow up as respectable human beings. This woman did not push a store keeper into a wall or hold a gun at their head or refuse to move off a street at the request of a police officer. The story is about a cop who had compassion and helped someone who is suffering. AMEN.

I can't believe that someone actually would think that if this women was black it would have been different. I think if this person changed her attitude and hatred of whites that maybe there wouldn't be such negative thinking about blacks and whites.
