Sonny Kim - Law Enforcement Fatality - Cincinnati, Ohio

Police Officer Sonny Kim, age 48, died in the line of duty on June 19, 2015, at a hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Officer Kim and other officers responded to a 911 call reporting that a man was behaving strangely at a city street intersection. This was at 9:30 a.m.

Trepierre Hummons (L);  Officer Sonny Kim (R)

When Sonny Kim arrived at the scene, he was fired upon and shot several times. Shots were exchanged and the male suspect was also shot multiple times.

Sonny was transported to a local hospital where tragically he died of his injuries. The young male suspect, Trepierre Hummons, age 21, was also transported to the hospital where he too sadly passed away.

It has been reported that Trepierre Hummons was recently having relationship problems with a girlfriend and was not acting rationally. The morning of the tragedy a sexual offence charge was filed against him.

It is believed that he intended to committee "suicide by cop". He phoned 911 himself and reported a young black male, who was belligerent and carrying a gun. He had posted on Facebook telling family and friends that he intended to commit suicide and that he loved them all. It is believed he wanted to lure cops to a confrontation so that they would shoot him.

Trepierre's mother arrived on the scene before the police did and tried to keep her son away from the officers, but was unsuccessful. She then attended to Officer Kim as he lay dying on the ground.
