Derek Pagan - a victim of hit and run in Texas

Sgt. Derek Pagan, age 29, died on April 26, 2015, on a highway in East Austin, Texas.

Derek was walking on the highway at about 2:30 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle. Derek was fatally injured and the driver did not stop. Tragically, Derek died at the scene of the collision.

Several Good Samaritans stopped to provide aid and to protect Derek's body until the police arrived.

It has not been determined as of this date if Derek was struck by more than one car.

Derek was assigned to the 589th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, based at Fort Hood. He had just re-enlisted in the Army and had been based at Fort Hood for four years. He entered the military in April of 2011 as a radio and communications security repairer.

Derek Pagan is originally from Kunkletown, Pennsylvania.

Derek's military comrades are in mourning over the loss of their brother. He was humorous and smart and had lots of potential. He will be forever remembered.

Derek's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was a good man who served his country well. He was very much loved by his family. He will be forever mourned.

Derek is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his mother, Linda; and his sister.

Pray for justice for Derek.

God save us from those who strike us down on the road and then run away like wolves. Amen.

Pray that Derek is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
