Joseph Sanford Jr. - Firefighter Fatality - New York State

Firefighter Joseph Sanford Jr., age 43, died in the line of duty on December 23, 2014, at a hospital in Manhasset, New York.

He was known as Junior to many of his friends and family. 

Joseph was a volunteer member of the Inwood Fire Department in New York State.  He had 17 years of service. 

On December 19, 2014, Joseph was one of many firefighters who responded to a call of a fire at a residence in Woodmere, New York. He was one of the first to arrive at the scene.  Somehow he became separated from his comrades and fell through the first floor of the house into the basement. Joseph was rushed to a hospital in Manhasset where tragically he passed away of his injuries on December 23, 2014.

The circumstances of this tragedy are under investigation. 

A site has been established to help the family with expenses.

The Inwood Fire Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. He was a respected and valued member of their team. Joseph will be forever remembered.

Joseph's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was a good man who did his best.  His family is proud of him.  He will be forever mourned.

Joseph is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife, Jackie, and his daughter, Janisha.

Pray for all who die my misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye. 

Pray for all who suffer.

Pray that Joseph is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
