James Hart
Deputy Sheriff James Bart Hart, age 50, died in the line of duty on November 23, 2014, in Alabama.

Deputy Hart was a member of the Elmore County Sheriff's Office. He had 2 1/2 years of service.

James had entered into law enforcement after retiring as a Lieutenant from the Montgomery Fire Department.  He had served with the Fire Department for 24 years.

James was known as Bart to his family, friends and colleagues.

James had cleared the scene of a road accident and at about 7:45 p.m., he was travelling south in Wetumpka, Alabama. A vehicle crossed the center line and struck his patrol car head on.

James was wearing a seat belt but still suffered fatal injuries. The vehicle that crossed the center line was driven by Austin Augustine, age 16, who died in the crash.  Two passengers, Dylan Bieber and Hoyt Hardin, both age 16, also died from the impact.  A third passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to a nearby hospital.
Michael, Archangel, Patron
Saint of the Police, pray for

have lost him.

The Elmore County Sheriff's Office and the Montgomery Fire Department are in mourning over the death of their brother. He will be forever remembered.

James' loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother. He spent most of his life taking care of others. He was a man of faith and was a member of Central Baptist Church. He will be forever mourned.
Raphael, Archangel of healing,
pray for Austin, Dylan and
Hoyt and for those who
have lost them.

James is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his parents, Ray and Jo Hart; his brother, David; his wife, Charlotte Lanier Hart; and his daughter, Christina.
