Juan Fernandez - man killed by Pit Bulls in Modesto, California

Juan Fernandez
Juan Fernandez, age 54, died on October 15, 2014, at a hospital in Modesto, California.

Around 6:00 p.m., Juan was attacked by four Pitbull dogs in the backyard of his mother's house.

The Pitbulls belong to his neighbor. It is reported that the dogs had dug under the chain link fence separating the two houses.

Juan was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

It is also reported that a dog or dogs got into the Fernandez family's house and attacked Maria Fernandez, age 77, who was hospitalized in critical condition.

Friends stated that Juan had a good heart and looked after his elderly mother.

When the police arrived at the scene they found Juan being mauled by three pitbulls. The fourth dog was running around in the area. The Police shot and killed two of the dogs outright and after Juan was removed by ambulance, they found the other two and shot them.

Local authorities are not clear as to what charges, if any, the dog owners will face.

Unless negligence on the part of the dog owners is demonstrated, then there is no potential criminal liability if you live in Modesto.

It has been reported that Juan Fernandez had been arguing with the neighbors for over a month about the increased aggressiveness of these dogs.

Where is the City Council of Modesto and how intelligent are they? Why do they allow Pitbull dogs within their jurisdiction? News flash, Modesto - This is the 21st century! This isn't California in the 1850's.

And please - no hate mail about how your pitbull is your very best friend, and saved your life and licks your baby's face.

Pit bulls are vicious and unpredictable dogs. They were bred 200 years ago for bull baiting, bear baiting and dog fighting. They were never intended to be family pets. They should never be around infants or young children under any circumstances.

They have repeatedly proven that they can kill people both young and old including people passing by. They have killed grown women walking in the hallways of their apartment buildings; they have killed 40 year old men jogging by on a country road; they have killed toddlers playing on the floor.

Many towns and cities, counties and states do not allow pit bulls and related breeds within their jurisdictions.  Pitbulls are banned outright in a number of European countries, period.

Pit Bulls and all related dog breeds should be bred out of existence sooner rather than later.

Pray for Juan Fernandez. No one deserves to be bitten to death by dogs. God help us. Amen.
