Firefighter Kevin Bell - died in the line of duty - Hartford, Connecticut

Firefighter Kevin Bell, age 48, died in the line of duty on October 7, 2014, at a hospital in Hartford, Connecticut.

Kevin was a member of the Hartford Fire Department. He had 6 years of service. He worked out of the Blue Hills Station No. 16.

A fire broke out at a Hartford two-family home after 6:00 p.m. Firefighters were able to put out the flames in about 30 minutes. All of the residents were evacuated safely.

However, Kevin Bell was fatally injured. Three other firefighters were also injured but are expected to survive. The cause of Kevin's death is under investigation.

Kevin was born and raised in Hartford. He entered the profession of firefighting later in life.

The Hartford Fire Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. Fire Department officials describe Kevin as a hero who died in an effort to save others. He

Kevin's loved ones are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. They describe him as an excellent firefighter, who cared about his job and his fellow firefighters. He was a loving husband and father. He was heavily into music and in his off-duty hours managed bands and worked as a DJ at various clubs and events. He will be forever mourned.

Kevin is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his father, Manuel Gomes; his wife Wayette Bell; and two daughters.
