Andrew Weathers - U.S. Military Fatality - Afghanistan

Sgt. 1st Class Andrew T. Weathers, age 30, of DeRidder, Louisiana, died on September 30, 2014, at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany.

Andrew succumbed to injuries sustained when the enemy attacked his unit with small arms fire on September 28, 2014, in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. 

Andrew joined the Army in January of 2003 and completed basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He then completed advanced training as a helicopter repairer. In 2010, he volunteered for Special Forces training as a medical sergeant and earned his Green Beret. He joined the 7th Special Forces Group in 2012.  

He had previously deployed to Iraq.  This was his second deployment to Afghanistan.

His awards and decorations include the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Achievement Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Army Good Conduct Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, and others.

officials describe him as the consummate teammate and a great leader. He will be forever remembered. 

Andrew's family members are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He will be forever mourned.

Andrew is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives including his parents, Michael and Jere Weathers; his sister, Carrie; and his brother, Dusten.

Thank you for serving, Andrew.

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Andrew.

Pray that Andrew is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
