Jason Harwood - Law Enforcement - Kansas

Corporal Jason Harwood, age 40, died in the line of duty on September 7, 2014, in Topeka, Kansas.

Jason was a member of the Topeka Police Department. He had 15 years of service.

At about 4:45 p.m., Jason was making a traffic stop on a Topeka street. During the stop, one of the occupants of the vehicle started firing. Jason was fatally wounded and was rushed to a local hospital. The vehicle drove off.

Ross Lane, age 30, has been arrested in connection with this murder. He turned himself in to authorities.  Ross Lane is believed to be the shooter in this tragedy.  He has prior convictions for burglary, uttering threats, drug use, criminal damage and domestic battery.  While in prison on several convictions, he was continually in trouble with prison authorities. This dude is only 30 years old and already has a rap sheet like Judas. He is bad news from the word go.

Jason Harwood joined the Police Department in June of 1999.  He served as a member of the hit and run unit and the K-9 unit.  He was promoted to Corporal in May of 2012. 

He had been severely injured in the line of duty in 2010 when a van hit his vehicle.  He suffered multiple broken bones and serious internal injuries.

The City of Topeka is grieving the loss of this man who died so tragically and so needlessly.  

The Topeka Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. Police Officials stated that Jason loved his job and was a dedicated officer, who will be forever remembered. 

Friends describe Jason as fun and friendly, with a strong character.  

Jason's loved ones are devastated over his senseless and tragic death. He will be forever mourned.

Jason is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his twin brother, Jeremy Harwood; and his wife and 2 sons.

Thank you for your service to the community, Jason.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

God save us from the Lost Ones who bring death to strangers. They are killing us, Father.

Pray that Jason is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
