Gene Simmons |
On July 31, 2014, Gene Simmons did an interview with a popular internet music blog.
During the interview, Gene Simmons came up with some personal comments about depression and suicide, notably:
That people who threaten self-harm are looking for attention.
That people, including 20 year olds, who say they are depressed and suicidal, should kill themselves.
That anyone who is on the top of a building threatening to jump off, should "have some dignity and jump."
As a result of these comments a number of radio networks and individual radio stations around the world have chosen to boycott all music from KISS. And rightly so.
Most KISS fans are aging baby-boomers who may be facing health, financial and
personal difficulties. What they don't need is this old fool cajoling them into suicide.

KISS album.... At least they got the name of the album right |
More importantly, any young kid who stumbles across KISS music in his grandpa's album collection, and somehow becomes a fan, doesn't need Gene Simmon's encouragement to kill himself either.
It is hard to believe that a 64 year old man with a wife and two children of his own would spout off this crass and inhumane rubbish in the media when he knows that his comments could affect vulnerable people world-wide, particularly teenagers and young adults.
Does Gene Simmons want his own kids to jump off the roof of a building if they become depressed?
If you are feeling depressed or suicidal, talk to someone:

God help those who are tormented. Amen.
