Daniel Howard - Firefighter - New South Wales, Australia

Daniel Howard
Firefighter Daniel Howard, age 37, died in the line of duty on August 17, 2014, in Cobar, New South Wales, Australia.

Daniel was a volunteer member of Cobar's Fire Service.  He had been with the Service for five years.

Daniel was known as Howie to many of his friends.

In the morning, Daniel and other firefighters attended a fire at a hotel and pub in Cobar. Ten people inside the hotel had managed to escape when the fire broke out at about 8:00 a.m. The fire may have started on the roof. However, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

At about 9:00 a.m., a wall collapsed on Daniel and another firefighter.

Both men were transported to the local hospital. Tragically, Daniel died of cardiac arrest. The other firefighter escaped with a broken arm.

Daniel had intended on attending a family gathering that weekend but instead filled in for a fellow firefighter's shifts.

He was a successful electrical contractor.
