David Stewart - U.S. Military

David Stewart
Staff Sgt. David H. Stewart, age 34, of Stafford, Virginia, died on June 20, 2014, while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. 

It has been reported that David died due to the explosion of a roadside bomb.

He was assigned to the 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

David most recently deployed to Afghanistan in April of 2014.  This was his second deployment there. He had also served three tours of duty in Iraq in 2006, 2007 and 2008. 

David graduated from North Stafford High School in his home town.  

He joined the Marines in June of 2004 and was promoted to staff sergeant in 2010.

His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Marine Corps Drill Instructor Ribbon and Armed Forces Reserve Medal.

David's family members are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. They describe David as a warm and loving man. He will be forever mourned. 

David is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives including his father, Nelson Stewart; his wife and two young children.

Thank you for serving, David.

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like David.

Pray that David is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
