Detective Charles Dinwiddie died on May 11, 2014, at a hospital in Temple, Texas.

Charles was known as Chuck to his family and friends.

Chuck was a member of the Killeen Police Department. He had 18 years of service. He had been a SWAT Team member for 15 of those years.

At about 5:30 a.m., on May 9, 2014, Detective Dinwiddie and others were serving a narcotics search warrant at an apartment complex in Killeen. A man inside one of the apartments opened fire and shot Chuck and three other officers. Chuck was shot in the face. Tragically, on May 11, he passed away from his injuries.

The other officers suffered non-life threatening wounds.

The Killeen Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. Chuck will be forever missed.

Police Officials describe Chuck as a dedicated professional and an honorable, courageous and loyal man.

Friends describe him as a really good family man and a really good police officer. He was a role model and a valuable member of the community.
