Thomas Clarke, Spencer Faulkner, James Walters, Rakesh Chauhan and Oliver Thomas killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan

Five British soldiers were tragically killed in a helicopter crash in the Takhta Pul district of south-east Afghanistan, about 30 miles from the Pakistan frontier.

The Taliban claimed that they shot down the Army Lynx helicopter but military officials state that the crash was due to a catastrophic mechanical failure and was not due to an enemy attack.

Tragically killed were:

Thomas Clarke
Captain Thomas Clarke, age 30, of the Army Air Corps. Thomas was from Cowbridge, Wales. His family stated that Thomas was a wonderful husband, son, brother and friend. He brought so much happiness and love to everyone he knew with his sparkling blue eyes and cheeky smile. His commanders described the pilot as a rising star.

Spencer Faulkner
Warrant Officer Class 2 Spencer Faulkner, age 38, of the Army Air Corps. Spencer was a pilot who consistently displayed leadership and bravery. He is survived by his wife Cally and his children, Natasha and Jack. Family members stated that he loved his job.

James Walters
Corporal James Walters, age 36, of the Army Air Corps. He was a door gunner. He joined the Army in 1996 as a driver and also served in Northern Ireland and Kuwait. He is survived by his wife, Tracey and his daughter, Lainey. His family describe him as a beautiful and loving husband, daddy, son, and brother.

Rakesh Chauhan
Flight Lieutenant Rakesh Chauhan, age 29, of the Royal Air Force. He was an intelligence officer from Birmingham and was on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan. His commander said he was hugely influential and well respected. He is also described as charming, funny and sharp as a tack. He was immensely proud of his role in the military and of his service. He was an exceptional officer who had a bright future ahead of him.

Oliver Thomas
Reservist Lance Corporal Oliver Thomas, age 26, 3 Military Intelligence Battalion. He was from Brecon, Powys. He joined the Army Reserve in June of 2011. He volunteered to serve in Afghanistan and had been on the frontline since December of 2013. Family members describe Oliver as a truly amazing person who lived life to the full.

The comrades of these men are in mourning over their sudden and tragic deaths.

The families of these men are devastated by the loss of their loved ones. Oceans of tears will be shed for these men. They will be forever mourned.

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief over the deaths of these men. They would not have died there, if there was no war there.

Pray that Thomas, Spencer, James, Rakesh and Oliver are in heaven. Pray that they are at peace and are with God. Amen.
