Shawn Farrell II - U.S. Military

Sgt. Shawn M. Farrell II, age 24, of Accord, New York, died on April 28, 2014, in the Nejrab District, Kapisa province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light), Fort Drum, New York.

Shawn graduated from Rondout Valley High School in 2008 and joined the Army shortly thereafter. This was his second tour of duty in Afghanistan. His current tour started in November of 2013.

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, two Afghanistan Campaign Medals, the Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, and the Air Assault Badge. He completed the Warrior Leader Course, the Combat Life Savers Course and the Air Assault Course.

His military comrades are in mourning over his tragic death. He will be missed.

Shawn's family members are devastated over his tragic passing. He will be forever mourned.

Shawn is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives including his parents and his wife.

Thank you for serving, Shawn.

Pray for all who die young in a foreign land. We didn't get a chance to say goodbye.

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Shawn.

Pray that Shawn is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
