Greg Light - a victim of impaired driving in Missouri

Greg Light, age 49, of Catawissa, died on a highway in Franklin County, Missouri.

Greg was a paramedic and firefighter with the Eureka Fire Protection District.  He had 27 years of service. 

Greg was off-duty.  After 9:00 p.m., he was driving on a local highway when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Jael M. Clem, age 38, of Pacific, Missouri. She was trying to pass another vehicle when she plowed into Greg head-on.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident. 

Jael Clem is a suspected drunk driver and was arrested.  She may be charged with manslaughter, assault, and driving while intoxicated. An 11 year old girl, in the car with Jael Clem was taken to the hospital in serious condition.   

The Eureka Fire Protection District is in mourning over the death of their brother.  Greg was active in paramedic training, the junior firefighter program and other fire-related training programs. He was also chairman of the Missouri Emergency Cardiac Care Committee for the American Heart Association.

Fire Department officials stated that Greg was a true public servant. He will be missed. 

Greg's family are devastated over his sudden and senseless death. He will be forever mourned. 

Greg is survived by many loving comrades, friends and relatives including his wife, Faith; his son, Justin, who is also a Eureka firefighter; and his daughter, Samantha.

Thank you for your service to the public, Greg. 

Pray for all who die by misadventure.  They are with us one moment and gone the next. 

God save us from the drunk and doped up drivers. They are killing us, Father. 

Pray that Greg is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
