Chad Oulson - killed in a movie theater - America's Gun Culture

Chad Oulson
Chad Oulson, age 43, died on January 13, 2014, at a movie theater in Tampa, Florida.

Chad and his wife had gone to the theater to see an afternoon showing of the movie "Sole Survivor", staring Mark Wahlberg.  This is an action movie about Navy Seals.

Also attending the movie was Curtis Reeves, age 71, who is a retired Tampa Police Department captain.

What happened is bizarre and out of scope and is tragic in so many ways.

Chad Oulson and his wife were sitting in a row of seats in front of Curtis Reeves. Chad Oulson was texting his daughter prior to and during the movie and Curtis Reeves objected. He asked Chad to put away his phone. A confrontation ensued.

Curtis Reeves
Voices were raised and in anger, Chad Oulson apparently threw a box of popcorn into the face of Curtis Reeves, who pulled out a gun and shot Chad Oulson and wounded Chad's wife in the hand. Chad was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Curtis Reeves has been charged with second degree murder.

There is no chance that a Florida "Stand Your Ground" defense can be used by Curtis Reeves in this case because a box of popcorn thrown in your face is not evidence of an attempt to kill you.

What is even more disturbing about this case is that a retired police officer knows exactly what is involved in "deadly force" and when to use it. You don't use it over a popcorn attack. Many police officers have tragically died in the line of duty.  None were killed by a cardboard box full of popcorn.

God help us. Who goes to a movie theater in the afternoon carrying a gun? Who does this in this day and age? In Afghanistan people go to movies carrying guns and daggers, but in America?

Soon, in this nation, because of the nasty ass gun culture we maintain, we will have to pass through a metal detector to enter any public facility including movie theaters, civic buildings, drug stores, malls or any place else.

Chad is described as a family man who greatly loved his wife and child. He was a happy man. He was happy with his family. He was often at the community pool with his daughter.

Angels of God, pray for Chad
and those who have lost him
He made an attempt to be the best dad that he could be.

He is also described as a dedicated employee.

Oceans of tears will be shed over the death of Chad Oulson because he died in such a senseless way.

Chad is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife, Nicole and his young daughter.

Pray for justice for Chad.

God save us from the Lost Ones, who bring death to strangers. Amen.

Pray that Chad is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
