Shqair Shqair - Store Owner murdered in Syracuse, New York

Shqair Shqair, age 38, died on October 1, 2013, at a pizzeria in Syracuse, New York.

Shqair was working on the late shift at Sabatino's Pizza.

At about 1:00 a.m., a man with a bandana on his face entered the pizzeria to rob it. Shqair was by himself at the counter when the shooting occurred, although there were a few other employees in the store at the time. Shqair tried to reason with the man but was shot. The murderer left the store within a minute and a half of entering it. And he left with no money.

Shqair was rushed to a local hospital but later succumbed to his injuries during emergency surgery.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Syracuse police at 315-442-5222.

Shqair was an immigrant from Ramallah, Palestine. He came to America about 4 years ago to join his wife and help her run the pizza store.

He worked from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. almost every day. Before work, he took his five

children to school in the morning. He basically worked day and night.

He was a co-owner of the pizzeria along with his wife.

Shqair came over from the Palestinian city of Ramallah about four years ago to join his wife and help her run the store. Shqair didn't know more than a few words of English or how to make a pizza.

He was a devout Muslim and a devoted father who worked extremely hard to provide for his wife and children.

Shqair is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife, Julia; and his five children (ages 11 to 17).

Pray for justice for Shqair. Amen.

God save us from the thieves. They are killing us, Father. Amen.

Pray that Shqair is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
