Lynne Spalding - died in stairway of hospital in San Francisco, California

Lynne Spalding, age 57, died sometime after September 21, 2013, in a stairway at San Francisco General Hospital.

Her body was found on October 8, 2013, when a hospital staff member was checking a rarely used external stairway as a matter of routine maintenance.

Lynne had been hospitalized for a bladder or urinary tract infection on September 19. Family members said that she was weak and frail at the time of her admittance. Lynne was last seen by a nurse at 10:15 a.m. on September 21.

When Lynne went missing the hospital initiated the standard missing patient procedure, which sadly did not include the searching of all stairways and fire escapes, which would seem like a self-evident requirement.  If patients are disoriented, or confused or want to "leave the hospital" while semi-delirious or even when upset, the first place they are going to head for is an elevator or to a door leading to a stairwell.

Who working in a hospital doesn't know this?

An independent consultant will investigate the hospital's security and patient

safety protocols.
Light a candle for Lynne.
Light her way to Heaven.

A police inquiry into Lynne Spalding's death will be undertaken by the San Francisco Police Department.

Hospital officials have publicly stated that: "What happened at our hospital is horrible. We are here to take care of patients, to heal them, to keep them safe. This has shaken us to our core. Our staff is devastated."

Lynne was originally from Peterlee in County Durham, England. She had lived in the U.S.A. for 23 years. Friends said that she had never lost her very thick British accent.

Lynne worked in marketing and sales in the hospitality industry but had recently lost her job.

Lynne will be forever missed by her family and friends.

Lynne is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her 23 year old daughter and 19 year old son.

God save us from dying sick and alone due to the errors of others. Amen.

Pray that Lynne is in heaven. Pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
