Billy Kennedy - Law Enforcement - Texas

Deputy Sheriff Billy Kennedy, age 38, of Rankin, Texas, died in the line of duty on October 2, 2013, in McCamey, Texas.

Billy was a member of the Upton County Sheriff's Department. He had 14 years of service in law enforcement and had worked in Pecos, Brown and Upton counties.

At about 11:15 p.m., Billy was responding to a call at a convenience store in McCamey. After he arrived at the scene he encountered a male subject, Gary Green, age 50. During the encounter the two exchanged gunfire. Despite being mortally wounded, Deputy Kennedy was able to return fire and wounded Gary Green.

Gary Green has a long prior wrap sheet. He was on parole at the time of the shooting. He has been charged with capital murder.

Billy was nicknamed "Bubba" by his family and friends.

Police officials describe Billy as a good officer and a hard worker. Many comrades in

different jurisdictions are in mourning over this tragic incident.

Friends describe Billy as a family man who enjoyed hunting and roping with his 15 year old son.

Billy is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife and two sons, age 15 and age 10.
