Ricardo Young - U.S. Military

Sgt. 1st Class Ricardo D. Young, age 34, of Rosston, Arkansas, died on August 28, 2013, in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire.

He was assigned to the 307th Engineer Battalion (Combat/Airborne), 20th Engineer Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Ricardo joined the Army on September 17, 1997, as an Infantryman, attending One Station Unit Training at Ft. Benning, Georgia, before reporting to Fort Campbell, Kentucky for his first assignment. 


Ricardo served in various assignments, including three combat tours - two to Iraq and one to Afghanistan. He was a Horizontal Construction Engineer.

Military officials state that he had a special sense of humor and an intense camaraderie with his fellow soldiers.  He was well-liked. 

Military comrades stated that he loved his family, the Army and football.

His awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO medal, Parachutist Badge and Air Assault Badge.

Ricardo is survived by many loving friends and relatives.

Thank you for serving, Ricardo.

Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Ricardo.

Pray that Ricardo is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
