Sgt. Daniel Kavuliak, age 35, of Turzovka, died in the line of duty on July 9, 2013, in Kandahar, Afghanistan.Daniel was a member of the 11th Mechanized Battalion of the Slovakian Army based in Martin, Slovakia.
Daniel was shot by an Afghan national army soldier at the Kandahar airfield. Six others were wounded in the attack. Slovak soldiers were training members of the Afghan Army.
Friends describe Daniel as a smart, kind and easy-going man.

Daniel is survived by many loving friends, comrades and relatives including his wife, Lucie.
