Xavier Pelletier - died while on Fundraiser for Cancer Research

Xavier Pelletier, age 16, of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, died on June 16, 2013, on a highway near Arlington, Washington, U.S.A.

He, along with his mother and uncle, were participants in the Ride to Conquer Cancer, on day two of a two-day annual fundraiser for cancer research. More than 2,600 cyclists participated in the ride by travelling over 200 kilometres from Vancouver to Seattle. During the past five years, about $39 million has been raised for cancer research.

Xavier was riding in support of his uncle who was a cancer survivor.

He was passing other riders when he fell off his bike into the path of a vehicle at about 9:20 a.m. The vehicle was not speeding. Drugs and alcohol are not factors.

Friends stated that he was doing nothing wrong. He wasn't cycling erratically or passing wrongly. It was just a tragic accident.

Fellow cyclists ran to his aid, and Paramedics tried for 40 minutes to revive him, but Xavier was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Xavier was a popular Grade 10 student at Pacific Christian School in Victoria.
Father, place Xavier on the
stairway to Heaven

He liked sailing, volleyball and rugby and recently completed a triathlon.

School officials stated that Xavier's legacy of generosity and faithfulness will inspire us all to serve better and love more deeply.

His family are heartbroken over his death. Friends have stated that Xavier will never be forgotten. He is described as kind and generous in spirit.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next. Amen.

Pray that Xavier is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
