Reid Nishizuka - U.S. Military

Capt. Reid K. Nishizuka, age 30, of Kailua, Hawaii, died on April 27, 2013, near Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan.

He was killed in the crash of an MC-12 aircraft. The cause of the crash does not appear to be from enemy activity.

He was assigned to the 427th Reconnaissance Squadron, Beale Air Force Base, California.

Reid was a 2000 Kailua High School graduate. He went on to study aeronautical engineering at Notre Dame University.

He was a pilot. Reid had deployed to Afghanistan in March of 2013. He had numerous previous deployments and more than 200 combat missions.

His military awards included 10 air medals, 2 Air Force commendation medals and 2 Air Force achievement medals.

Family members are devastated by his loss. They will remember him for his winning personality, his smile and his compassion. They stated that Reid wanted to be a pilot since childhood. They are proud of him, the life he led, and his service to his country.

Military colleagues stated that Reid was always a great person to have around, always had solutions if anyone had any problems and knew how to do a lot of things.

Reid is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother; his father, Ricky Nishizuka; and his brothers, Chad and Reyn Nishizuka.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next. Amen.
