She hung herself.
She was known as Kitty to her family and friends.
Kitty attended Mt. View Middle School in Thorndike and was in the 6th grade.
Family members state that they believe Kitty was bullied to death. She was targeted at school and on the bus for her sexual orientation. Friends said that she was trying to figure out who she was. She dyed her hair and wore unusual earrings and unusual clothes, including some all-black outfits.
She had been physically kicked by someone over all of this. She was harassed on the school bus and at school.
Family members describe Kitty as a sweet little girl, who was funny, bright and lively.
Family members want a response from the school and some action taken against bullying. However, it is our experience that all schools routinely deny culpability in tragedies such as this. You could be found hung in your own schoolyard and the school will say "Nope...We didn't know anything about it. We can't monitor the mental health of every student, etc." It's all about the fear of lawsuits.
Schools can't monitor the mental health of every student but they are (or should be)
Light a candle for Kitty. Light her way to Heaven. |
The school, which has a defined anti-bullying policy, maintains it received no reports that Kitty was bullied. She had many friends at Mount View Middle School in Thorndike. She was happy at home. She had never tried drugs. Her grades were improving.
Pray for all who die young, whatever the reason. Amen.
Pray for all who are driven to suicide. Amen.
Let us pray that Kitty is in heaven. Let us pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
