Elyse Stern - killed by hit and run driver in Minneapolis

Elyse Stern, age 28, died on March 30, 2013, at 2:00 a.m. on a city street in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

She was riding her bicycle when she was struck by a vehicle. The driver fled the scene.

Police have suggested that at 2:00 a.m. a bicyclist should be wearing a helmet and also have lights on the bike. Elyse didn't have a helmet or lights.

Yes...one should have these things but how many times have I biked at night without either? When you are biking on a city street with street lights and stop signs and traffic control, you presume that you are relatively safe.

You are...but not from drunk drivers. And not at 2:00 a.m.

Juan Ricardo Hernandez-Campoceco, age 27, has been arrested in connection with this tragic death.

The Police stated that this man showed signs of intoxication and was arrested on

suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated. As of this posting, he has not been officially charged.

The family of Elyse describe her as a free spirit, adventurous, loved to travel and loved to bike.
