Rory grew up in Campbell, a suburb of San Jose. He attended Marshall Lane School and Westmont High School.
Rory and a friend had pulled into the lot of a 7-11 Store on Friday night around 9:00 p.m.. They were approached by 2 armed men who attempted to steal Rory's vehicle. Rory was shot during the altercation.
Jonathan Wilbanks and an unidentified accomplice also opened fire on a San Jose Police Officer, who narrowly escaped injury.

It is believed that Jonathan Wilbanks and his accomplice were involved in 4 other incidents that night - the robbery of a Little Caesars Pizza, the robbery of a gas station, the robbery of a Jack in the Box restaurant, and the robbery of a spa. And then these men proceeded to the 7-11 to kill Rory Park-Pettiford.
Jonathan Wilbanks was arrested after a brief car chase, but police are still searching for the second suspect.

Family members describe Rory as an amazing young man who blessed all with his presence and his kindness. He will be forever missed.
Rory is survived by his mother, Young-Ae Park; his father, Rory Pettiford and his brother, Dylan.
God save us from the thieves. Amen.
God save us from the Lost Ones who stalk the Earth stealing away life. Amen.
Let us pray that Rory Park-Pettiford is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
