Alan Soards - Firefighter - England

Firefighter Alan Soards, age 38, died on October 2, 2012, in Hertfordshire, England.

Alan was a member of the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service. He had 11 years of service.

Alan was attending a training exercise attended by Norfolk and Suffolk firefighters at the Lee Valley White Water Centre in Hertfordshire. This was a water related training exercise. Alan became distressed in the water. His comrades came to his aid but were unable to save his life. He may have suffered a heart attack.
Saint Florian, Patron
Saint of Firefighters,
pray for Alan

A former Cliff Park High School pupil in Gorleston, Alan achieved a degree in applied physics at Coventry University, before he moved back to Gorleston. There he was a volunteer lifeboat crew member at Great Yarmouth and Gorleston RNLI lifeboat station. He had also devoted some of his spare time to delivering road safety presentations to teenage students at Lowestoft College and schools in Waveney.

Fire Department officials are devastated by Alan's death and the loss of a dedicated firefighter.

Friends describe him as a man who was well known, well respected and well liked. He is also described as an experienced, extremely professional and capable firefighter, who loved his job.

Alan is survived by many loving friends and relatives.

Pray for all who die as a result of performing the duties required by their job.

Thank you for serving, Alan.

Let us pray that Alan Soards is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
